Cybersecurity & secure communications

When distributed energy resources connect to the grid, security is not optional. Every device is identified, every connection is encrypted, and safe behaviour is defined for when things go wrong.

Chain of trust

Every connection is authenticated.

A certificate authority issues each device its own digital certificate using public key infrastructure. The Utility Integration Server only accepts devices that present a valid certificate, and every message between them is encrypted.

Certificate lifecycle

Managed from first connection to retirement.

  1. 1Issue

A unique certificate is created for each device.

  2. 2Register

The device is registered and verified at commissioning.

  3. 3Renew

Certificates are renewed before they expire.

  4. 4Revoke

A compromised or retired device is removed from the network.

Principles

Secure by design.

Encrypted communication

Data between site, platform and utility server travels over encrypted connections.

Controlled access

Users and systems receive only the permissions they need.

Questions from security teams

Can the server be hosted in our own country or data centre?

Hosting options and data residency are agreed with each utility or organisation.

Do you hold security certifications?

We do not claim certification against specific security standards unless it has been confirmed for your project; requirements are reviewed with your security team before deployment.
